about

Continuing the classic vocal bassline theme the second addition to the BSS release is J69 & Breeza’s ‘Bap Bap’. This one is authentic as they come, historically when a Sheffield producer’s world collides with a Midlands MC it has been the magic formula for a bassline smash many a time over the years. This record fits that mould rolling back the years with a hook made for the clubs, punchy adlibs and nostalgic synths throughout.

J69 has been a staple in the 1Forty schedule since day one, giving the underground some of the best bassline releases in the scene over the two years especially. Having been an invisible pillar to the scene at times over the past 10 years with coming after the golden era of Pantha, Burgerboy and co, J69 never went quiet. The last 12 months alone has seen ‘Back Like’ Ft MNT & SG, ‘Lemons’ via Killjoy’s Joyride imprint, ‘Footwork’ with MNT, ‘Alien Dawg EP’ on Sheffield's iconic Off Me Nut Records as well as ‘Ya Fool’ and now of course the VIP that dropped last month he is Sheffield's fine wine that only gets better with age.

Breeza has had a similar path trying to make his name in an area and era, packed of MC talent and crews rather than producers however, barring alongside the likes of Stayfresh and Invasion at the height of their underground grime scene domination of the Midlands, from the BBC with Mistajam & DJ Cameo to more local settings such as Jaykae's iconic Birthday Set. Breeza often stood out from the pack by his choice of instrumentals on his freestyles across JDZmedia and P110 amongst other channels, often picking Bassline over Grime as his beat of choice, some of which amassed over 100k hits. Often heard in Spooky’s sets due to one of his most prized dubs ‘Merk It Like Spooky’, along with Butterz’ Royal T and DJ Pantha it shows the level of underground authenticity Breeza is working at.
