about

Ronnie Loko makes his debut on the label with a track that has all the elements to become a modern day UK Funky classic. A sound reflective of the 2009 scene which was dominated by Roska, Lil Silva and iLL BLUE at the time, brought forward into 2021 with flavours of Amapiano whilst keeping the early UK Funky influence of Grime. A pounding kick drum and African percussive structure moulded by its heavy bassline, tribal stabs and organ lead combine for a track worthy of its soundsystem culture it belongs to.

Ronnie Loko has been producing just short of 20 years, ducking and weaving throughout Grime, Garage, Rap, RnB, Bass, Funky & Tribal before releasing under the alias ‘Black Ice’ in 2009 amongst the thriving UK Funky scene. The South London based artist prides himself on his ability to mix and blend the named genres stemming from his Ghanaian heritage, London upbringing and American trap sounds in his production to deliver a style with no boundaries of different influences.

In 2016 Ronnie founded his own label Rapture LDN which he has released through on a number of occasions over the past 5 years, as well as Roska Kicks and Snares and DJ Whitecoat’s Sun Tribe Terrace amongst others. His releases have gathered support from close friend and UK Funky queen KG as well as other funky mainstays Marcus Nasty, DJ EZ, Jaguar Worldwide, LR Groove and DJ Target. It probably comes as no surprise that Ronnie is also an extremely talented multi-genre DJ who as a result has a residency at Boxpark Croydon. The combination of his productions and talent behind the decks has led to guest mixes on 1Xtra for both Sian Anderson as well across BBC Asian Network, Kiss Fresh, Rinse FM, Reprezent, Flex FM and Keep Hush setting himself up for his debut 1Forty release.
